An Introvert’s Guide to Marketing
Do you ever wish marketing your private practice felt easier? Many therapists and counselors are introverts and it can be hard to market yourself in the traditional sense as an introvert.
Marketing as an introvert doesn't have to be scary or hard though. The hard part really is making it a habit. As a therapist, you know how important it is to go outside the comfort zone to reach your goals. Marketing is hard because it takes you out of your comfort zone.
For many, marketing your private practice brings on fear of rejection. How do you get past the gatekeepers so doctors know you exist and will refer to your private practice? When you think this way, you're making it about you instead of about the doctor or about the client.
One of the easiest places to market your private practice as an introverted counselor is the internet. Most people in the United States have access to the internet (no not everyone, but most). This gives you a wide reach. It’s just vital to stay in the states you're licensed in!
On the internet, you can market your private practice by:
- Teaching what you know
- Acknowledging everyone on social media who mentions you
- Responding to all emails, DMs, and other relevant social media posts
- Sharing new things you've learned
- Sharing success stories
- Creating content your target audience needs to hear and putting it out there regularly
You never have to talk to people in person this way and can still get in front of your target audience. You can stop beating yourself up for not marketing yourself and start putting this into your daily routine.
This can be done on:
- Social media
- Google My Business
- Your website
- Blog sites like Medium
- Starting a podcast
- Asking others if you can post a blog to their site relevant to their audience
Therapists are good at connecting with others and helping them see the path forward. Marketing really is no different.
Overcoming the fear of marketing your private practice will make you a stronger, more confident therapist as well as a stronger, more confident person. Achieving your goals changes your beliefs in yourself.
You take pride in your private practice. You do great work and people need to know about it.
As a licensed therapist and coach, I understand your fears of marketing your private practice. I also understand the pride you feel overcoming those fears and feeling more confident in yourself as a therapist and as a person.
It took me a very long time to figure out how to market my private practice outside of directories. It took even longer for me to be engaged in the process and actually enjoy marketing. It gets easier with practice and doesn’t feel so scary or take so much effort the longer you do it. It becomes a part of your daily routine and is as effortless as brushing your teeth.
Don’t let your fears of marketing stand in the way of having a several month waiting list. It’s time for you to have the practice you’ve been dreaming of and feel confident in yourself as a therapist and marketing director (because let’s face it, you do wear more than one hat)!
